Daisy

Let me tell you a story about a woman who dwelled deep into the woods. She was a kind, motherly creature, though proud and bold. She surrounded herself with the things she loved most in the world and took care of them the best she could, she even cared for the little strays that would wander into her home. She found that when she let her loves explore, they sometimes brought back more. She became the momma hen to all the little monsters who were fortunate enough to experience her, and no matter how many of them strolled into her heart there was always room for more. This loving, funny, crazy woman was among the most precious gems out there, and like her little ones learned, the best gems are taken first. They were all so sad and distraught at the loss of their jewel that none of them noticed she was a caterpillar trapped in her cocoon, they didn't witness her rupture from captivity and soar with the grace of a butterfly.

My grandmom was loved by all, I've heard many stories of her childhood, how crazy, funny, and beautiful she was, and while I didn't know her until her later years, I've noticed one thing from all these fantastic tales, like a fine wine, she only got better with age. She is the craziest, wildest, most creative soul I know. She's taught me many things in life, how to turn the most simple things into beautiful masterpieces, I remember sitting at the kitchen table late at night with her as she taught us to make little sculptures from bread and glue; she was creative like that.

I always liked to do things with her, and not just because I liked the look she'd give me when I could hold a conversation with her about the stars or the little creatures running about her gardens. The one look I didn't like was the one she gave me when she found out I don't have a makeup station. She'd run into my room one morning, demanding to know where I do my make-up because she had to “put on her face”. You can just imagine the look of shock and horror on her face when she heard that I don't wear makeup, therefore I had no makeup station. So you know I was definitely coming here with “my face on”.

She was also a very persistent woman, when she wanted you to do something, she'd get you to do it. She used to give me homework, actual homework, so i could learn all about the stars and zodiacs, Val would actually quiz me on things. Grandmom taught me all about the fairies and other dimensions, she loved all that stuff. You know, She's the reason why I love music, she'd seen me up on stage at a school function and instantly said that she could see me playing an instrument. Without a single word to me, she bought a violin for me and basically forced me to take lessons, I took off from there, learning as many different instruments i could. Now music is one of my passions, and every note I bow, every chord I play, will be her.

There are many times I thought Grandmom was psychic, she always had her crystal ball, or tarot cards, but what showed me that she really was psychic was the fact that she knew I was coming. She knew more than a year before I was born that I was coming, she had to have, because she started working on a present for me, she started creating my best friend. Someone who would be with me through it all, and for that I am forever thankful!

Grandmom used to always say that I was her Celtic beauty, but all this time she was really mine.

So I leave you with these words, while you're looking for her up in the stars, make sure you don't step on the mushrooms.

That's where the fairies live.
